Great book to reference some material. Can't say I read it from front to back as I look at this more as a textbook than anything else.

Book 1 was all about character. development; indeed, there seemed to be zero plot to the story—which I didn't mind all that much. It's done well and makes the book hard to put down. I imagine that we will see a lot of. plot development in book 2 (now that we have most/all of our characters in the bag. Lots of action in the plot... no filler content; these books are quickly becoming my favorite fiction reads of 2026. Fantastic book..not much else to say.

Compared to Roman history, I am much less knowledgeable of that of Ancient Greece. I skipped around just a tad—as the author uses many Homeric references, which I understand why she did—but they got a bit esoteric for my liking. Overall I can highly recommend Hall's book to those looking to dip their toes into the Ancient Greek world.

Absolutely loved everything about this book—which is my first time reading Abercrombie. Fast-paced, wonderful characters, and just a whole lot of fun. Ready to dig into book 2. Can't wait!

Newest book by Mary Beard. I have several of her books and appreciate her dedication to the field. Bonus points that the audiobook is narrated by her. This was a quick read, and I can't say it was the best. It's basically a long essay about both “sides” of the political spectrum using the Classics for their gain. I found the book approachable, but I can't say it's chock-full of history. Skip this one if you are looking for something like Beard's SPQR. All in all..I can't really see myself recommending this book to a general audience.

James Romm does it again! Brilliant look into the court of one of history's most ruthless autocrats. I learned a lot about Seneca in this book—mostly how he skirted around the wrath of Nero until the very end. Was Seneca the moral sage that we have come to admire in the teachings of stocicism? Or was he an enigmatic pundit in one of Rome's most turbulent courts?

A fun book to listen to between driving and working in the office. I am not head over heels for this series by any means, but I find the writing excellent and the world-building satisfying.

Like the rest of the books, I found the first 2/3 to be...boring. There: I said it. I wanted more travel and that high-fantasy drive that I have come to like in books. Mistborn just didn't do it for me. The endings of each book in the trilogy are epic...and I think (in hindsight) that they are worth the wait.

I had to stop towards the end. Too many names, too many details. Don't get me wrong—someone super interested in this period would love this book. I think Morris does a great job—but I lost interest when I was bogged down with details.

I think this was a pretty cool book that explored neat concepts. The speculative evolution stuff was super cool, and it got my SciFi juices flowing insofar as it made me ponder about other Earths and their timelines.

This book was so freaking good.

This was a really heavy read, but I think an essential one to get into the psychology of why people do horrible things in the name of authority. Be warned—this book has some graphic imagery...but that is the whole point. This is the kind of history that shouldn't be sugar-coated.

LOVED it! Worth a read even though I am still watching the show for the first time. The books go way more into the emotions and depths of each character.

I chose not to rate this book, even though I finished it, because while it's a valuable resource for those interested in the Middle Ages, it might not be accessible to all readers. It's worth reading if you have an interest in that period, but at times I found myself lost, as this era is my weakest area of knowledge.

I think that this was really well written,,,but nothing really happens in the book. It is more of a lens through drug abuse. I don't regret reading it by any means. Not a whole lot else to say. The book is short.

This was a great book and really informative. It reminds me of how great a writer Asbridge is... His crusades book struck me as easy to follow when I read it a few years ago. Legendary author

I enjoyed this book. It felt like an adventure but don't expect epic space battles or major world-building. The philosophy in this one can get heavy at times, but it's a solid read.

I always enjoy a Banks novel. I found myself longing for the Culture universe while I was reading this novel. I can't say I *loved* it like other readers, but I think it's a solid space epic for those in need of one!

Def. a different kind of book from the other Culture books, but I REALLY loved the ending... you have to read it to see what I mean; how all the pieces come together!

If I am being honest, this series hasn't "wowed" me.

I did not realize that this was just a collection of short stories. I read the main one, following with adventures of some characters we meet throughout the other novels in the Culture series. Not the best book, and I am glad to move on to 'Inversions'

Really short read, interesting thriller book

I can see why a lot of readers may not like this book, but I really enjoyed it. Not the best Culture book, but definitely one that made me think hard. I liked that the ships talked to one another, so cool!

Brown is still developing his style, this one felt too young-adult.

Second read through and absolutely loved it. I picked up more things than I did the first time. This is the first fiction book that I have ever truly read more than once.
